2011 IDADA Members Exhibition

IDADA is proud to announce its 7th Annual Membership Exhibition at wUG LAKU’S STUDIO & gARAGE.  This annual juried show always includes some of Indianapolis’ most accomplished artists as well as some interesting emerging artists, all of whom are members of the Indianapolis Downtown Artists and Dealers Association (IDADA).  The 2011 exhibition will be juried by Barry Blinderman, Director of the University Galleries and part-time professor in Art History at Illinois State University.  The opening reception and announcement of artist awards will be Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 6-9pm.  The gallery will also be open during the IDADA First Friday Art Tour on September 2.  Prizm, THE Artist’s Supply Store is graciously sponsoring the artist awards in the following amounts: $200 for First Place, $100 for Second Place, and $50 each for two Honorable Mention Awards.

More about the juror: Barry Blinderman is a curator of contemporary art and essayist on art from the 1980s to the present.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History from Boston University and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania.  From 1980-87, he was the director of Semaphore Gallery and Semaphore EAST—in Soho and the East Village, respectively—where he curated exhibitions of artists including Nancy Dwyer, Keith Haring, Robert Longo, Martin Wong, Robert Colescott, and Duncan Hannah.  He has been the director of University Galleries and a part-time professor in Art History at Illinois State University since 1987.  In recent years, Blinderman has taught seminars on topics including American Art of the 1980s and Pop Art and Proto-Pop.  Exhibitions he has curated have traveled to 72 museums and university galleries including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, The Chicago Cultural Center, the Whitney Museum at Philip Morris, and the Santa Monica Museum of Art.

From the Mass Ave., College Ave. and St. Clair intersection (indy fringe, Art Bank) take St. Clair east, go to Highland (second 4-way stop), turn left on Highland, and it will take you directly to 10th St., where you will see the Circle City Industrial Complex across the street. Proceed across 10th St. and you’re on Brookside. Parking entry is 1/2 block on the right. If you’re coming from the East, ignore the Rural St. detour and just head down 10th to Brookside.
